The rock and roll world mourns the death of Ace Frehley, the iconic lead guitarist and co-founder of the legendary rock band KISS. The musician died at the age of 74 after suffering a brain bleed from a fall in his studio last month.
Frehley, known to fans as “The Spaceman,” was hospitalized following the fall, which took place in late September. At the time, his team described it as a “minor fall,” but his health issues eventually forced him to cancel his remaining 2025 tour dates.
His family released a heartfelt statement, saying they are “completely devastated and heartbroken” by his passing. “In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth,” the statement read.
The family also reflected on his significant impact on the music world, adding that the magnitude of his passing is “of epic proportions and beyond comprehension” and that his “memory will continue to live on forever!”
Career with KISS and beyond
Born Paul Daniel Frehley in the Bronx, New York, in 1951, Frehley’s interest in music began in his teens after receiving an electric guitar as a Christmas present.
He joined KISS in 1972 and quickly became a fan favorite with his distinctive “Spaceman” persona and virtuosic guitar solos.
He performed with KISS for their most significant eras, contributing to their sound and co-writing some of their biggest hits, including “Rock and Roll All Nite” and “Detroit Rock City”.
He left the band in 1982 to pursue a solo career but rejoined the group for their highly successful reunion tour in 1996. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with KISS in 2014.
Following the news of Frehley’s passing, tributes began pouring in from fellow musicians and fans across social media, with many sharing their shock and heartbreak over the loss of a true rock and roll legend.
At the end, Frehley’s legacy as “The Spaceman” and his contributions to the world of hard rock and heavy metal will continue to influence generations of musicians to come.
